Violations of this law may subject the dog owner to a fine of up to $300. All dogs in Butler County must be licensed. Licenses, either annual or lifetime, must be obtained through the County Treasurer's Office at the County Office Building in downtown Butler or the Butler County website.
There is no state law in Pennsylvania pertaining to free roaming cats1. They are not protected under humane laws, and each municipality and county has the right to establish their own rules in terms of catching such cats and either placing them in shelters or destroying them1. However, if you allow your cat to be outside, it must have an ID collar or tag that has your name, phone number and address, and you must have proof of your cat's current rabies vaccination2. Free-roaming domestic cats are considered a One Health risk in Pennsylvania.
